Serums FAQ - All Your Questions Answered

Posted by Hayley Teo on

Wow, what a week! It’s been only a few days since the launch of our serums, but we’ve already gotten so many questions on how to use them and which ones to get. Serums are some of the most confusing product categories (of all time, according to Kanye), so it’s only natural that you want to learn more before making your purchase. Good on ya! In our last post, we talked about how we came up with our serums and how they can help your skin. We thought that would be enough but over the past few days we’ve received so amazing questions that we’ve decided to do up a list of the most frequently asked questions. And now we’re here to #drop the answers!

Q: Do I need a serum?
A: A serum is like the cherry on top of a cake. It’s not a must, but serums can be a great skin perfecting tool. Think of it as a shortcut to attaining your skin goals. If you want youthful, dewy and well-cared-for skin, introducing a serum into your routine can do wonders. If you are more concerned with maintenance, a basic routine without serums is fine as well.

Q: Which serum should I get?
A: It really depends on your lifestyle. Our serums are designed to accommodate modern life. If you are constantly sleep deprived, Circadian Fixer Hydro Drops can help you look less tired. If you are always outdoors, Sun Eraser Glow Drops can help to rejuvenate skin that has been dulled by the sun. If you work in the heart of the city, Anti Pollution Nano Drops can help protect your skin against free radicals from smog and dust and strengthen your skin barrier.

Q: How long is the shelf life of your serums?
A: Our drops continue to stay fresh for 1 year after opening, so don’t worry about it oxidising or losing its potency. As with all cosmetics, we highly recommend storing it in a cool and shaded area, out of direct sunlight. Unopened, it can last up to 3 years.

Q: Are they suitable for sensitive skin?
A: Yes, all our drops are suitable for people with sensitive skin.

Q: Which part of my skincare routine does your serum fit in?
A: To reap the full benefits, either apply it as the first step of your skincare routine after cleansing, or mix it in an existing moisturiser. All our serums can also be mixed together in the palm of your hands and applied directly onto your skin. They can also be layered on top of one another.

Q: I noticed that your serums have a slight hue to them. Do they contain artificial colouring?
A: No. Our colours are derived from natural extracts and are the side effects of the ingredients we use. For example, the ingredient that gives our Circadian Fixer Hydro Drops its rare blue tint also contains anti-inflammatory properties, making it perfect for soothing tired skin.

Q: How long must I wait before applying other products?
A: Good news - you do not have to wait before applying other products. Our serums are formulated to be light as water, which means that your skin will simply drink it up!

Q: Can I use it every day?
A: Yes, we highly encourage you to use it everyday consistently in order to see results.

Q: Should I use it in the morning or night?
A: Both are fine. Applying them at night is a great choice since skin tends to regenerate itself at night. Due to their lightweight formula that absorbs quickly without any hint of grease or residue, our serums can also be used as a daytime treatment.

Q: Can I mix the serums with other products?
A: Of course. Our serums are gentle boosters that can be added to an already existing routine. Due to their light and watery texture, they also play well with other products.

Q: Can I mix the serums with each other?
A: Yes! All our serums can be mixed with one another.

Q: I have noticed that Anti Pollution Nano Drops contains oils. Will I be able to layer my other products over it?
A: Yes, it is not a problem. The oils in Anti Pollution Nano Drop have been finely dispersed to form an invisible layer of protection that plays well with other products.

Q: Do I still need to use sunscreen if I am using Sun Eraser Glow Drops?
A: Yes. Sun Eraser Glow Drops is not a sunscreen.

Q: Does Sun Eraser Glow Drops contain any subtle shimmers?
A: No. Sun Eraser Glow Drops is a long-term treatment designed to reverse the negative effects of sun-induced skin damage. It is not a primer and we do not add any shiny or reflective particles to it as we believe that such methods are short-lived and do not truly reflect the health of your skin.

Q: I noticed that Sun Eraser Glow Drops contains vitamin C. Will it make me more UV sensitive?
A: Sun Eraser Glow Drops contains a novel and non-irritating form of vitamin C that is produced by binding glycerin to vitamin C. It will not increase photosensitivity but you should still wear sunscreen to reap the full benefits of Sun Eraser Glow Drops.

Q: How many drops should I use?
A: Depending on the state of your skin, you may need more or less. On average, we suggest using about 5-6 drops.

Q: Do I need to apply it on my whole face?
A: Since skincare is a personal experience, it should be adjusted to your needs and preferences. Your skin is unique and what works for someone else may not work for you. Some people are happy to just use Circadian Fixer Hydro Drops on dry patches, while others may use Sun Eraser Glow Drops only on dark spots. Our personal favourite way to use the drops is to mix Circadian Fixer Hydro Drops with our moisturiser before sleeping at night, and then apply few drops of Sun Eraser Glow Drops directly onto our trouble spots. In the day, we like to apply a layer of Anti Pollution Nano Drops before the rest of our routine.

Q: Do I need to use a moisturiser after applying?
A: We highly recommend using a moisturiser after applying our serums, especially for bedtime. This is because water loss can be severe at night, and your skin will need a good occlusive to seal it all in. In the day, a moisturiser may not be necessary - especially if your sunscreen or makeup already has hydrating properties.

Q: I would like to mix the drops in my moisturiser. How many drops should I mix in?
A: This depends on your skin needs and the water/oil content of your moisturiser. As a rule of thumb, you should mix in enough drops that your moisturiser starts to feel runny and lotion-like. The heavier the consistency of your moisturiser, the more drops you can mix in.

Q: Can I use the serums before masking?
A: Yes, you can use the serums before masking if it's a leave-on or sheet mask. If it is a clay mask or wash-off mask like Green Pulp Paste Masque, please apply afterwards.

Q: Is it okay to use with vitamin C or acids?
A: Yes. Vitamin C and acids can be drying and mildly irritating. We highly encourage you to use it with Circadian Fixer Hydro Drops, since it can help to hydrate and soothe your skin. For skin that has become sensitive due to overuse of vitamin C and acids, we also recommend using Anti Pollution Nano Drops to help repair your skin barrier.

Q: Can I use this if I’m younger than 25 or older than 45?
A: No matter how young or old you are, what really counts is your lifestyle. Our serums were formulated to address your lifestyle habits, not your age. Those in their 20s may lack sleep due to being overworked, while those in their 40s, 50s and 60s may lack sleep due to insomnia. Whatever the reason, these people can all benefit from using Circadian Fixer Hydro Drops. Similarly, people who enjoy spending time outdoors can benefit from using Sun Eraser Glow Drops, while people who live near city areas can benefit from using Anti Pollution Nano Drops.
